Ammonium sulfate

Ammonium sulfate
White or light gray crystalline powder or granules, odorless, readily soluble in water. It is a component of nitrogen-sulfur mineral fertilizers. It is produced by neutralizing sulfuric acid with ammonia or by chemical interaction of natural minerals. By its nature, it is a physiologically acidic salt, i.e. it acidifies the soil when applied.
Characteristics:
| Chemical formula | (NH4)2SO4 (ammonium sulfate) |
| Properties | Contains 21% nitrogen in ammonium form and 24% sulfur, which is an important element for the synthesis of proteins and amino acids in plants. It is well soluble in water, insoluble in alcohols and acetone. Has hygroscopic properties, but compared to ammonium nitrate, it is less prone to caking at humidity up to 80%. The ammonium form of nitrogen is immobile in the soil, which reduces the risk of its leaching. |
| Application | The main fertilizer for agriculture, especially on soils with high base saturation (chernozems, syrosems). Used for basic and foliar fertilization of crops such as rapeseed, wheat, sugar beet, potatoes, sunflower and others. Increases the yield and quality of agricultural products, helps increase the protein content and plant resistance to stress. Also used in industry, for example, for the production of persulfates. |
