Slag (blast furnace, granulated, screenings)

Slag (blast furnace, granulated, screenings)
- Blast-blast slag – is a by-product of blast-furnace steel production, consisting of molten impurities.
- Granulated blast-furnace slag — is slag rapidly cooled by water or steam, forming a granular structure. Ground granulated slag — powder obtained by grinding granulated slag with improved binding properties.
- Slag screenings (screening of crushed stone from blast-furnace production) — a fine fraction formed during the crushing and screening of slag or crushed stone.
Characteristics:
| Chemical formula | Main components of blast furnace slag — these are silicates and aluminates of calcium and magnesium, in particular CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, FeO |
| Properties | Blast furnace slag has high strength, frost resistance, chemical stability Granulated slag has hydraulic properties, i.e. the ability to harden in water, which allows it to be used as a binding component Ground granulated slag increases the durability and strength of concrete mixtures, reduces cement consumption Slag screening provides good density and stability of mixtures, is used as a filler |
| Applications | Blast furnace slag is used as a filler in the construction of roads, foundations, as a material for products Granulated slag used in the manufacture of cements, concretes and mortars Ground granulated slag is added to cement to improve the characteristics of concrete Slag screenings are used as aggregate in reinforced concrete structures, road construction, decorative and functional mixtures |
