Crushed stone

Crushed stone
Crushed stone — is an inorganic granular loose material with a grain size of more than 5 mm, which is formed by mechanical crushing of rocks. It can be cubic or lamellar in shape, and has a varying degree of fineness (content of lamellar and acicular grains). It can be volcanic, sedimentary or metamorphic in origin.
Characteristics:
| Chemical formula | Crushed stone contains rocks of various compositions, mainly silicates, including quartz (SiO2),granite, limestone, basalt and other minerals depending on the source |
| Properties | - The strength of crushed stone is determined by the ultimate strength of the source rock, its crushability and wear resistance - Frost resistance — the number of freezing and thawing cycles that the material can withstand without losing its qualities - Slackness affects the density of laying and the consumption of binder materials; lower fineness is better - The content of dust and clay particles is standardized and should not exceed certain limits - The radioactivity of crushed stone is controlled in accordance with building codes |
| Application | Crushed stone is widely used in construction for the production of concrete, asphalt concrete, foundations, roads, as well as in the manufacture of building mixtures for various purposes. The choice of fraction and quality of crushed stone depends on the specific construction tasks |
