Phosphogypsum

It is a by-product of the production of phosphoric acid by treating phosphate ores (apatites) with sulfuric acid. It is a gypsum-like material with a monomineral crystal structure, often in the form of lumps or powder with a characteristic odor. Also contains impurities of fluorine, rare earth elements, strontium and other elements.

Application	Phosphogypsum is used in construction as a lining material, an additive in the production of building materials, although its use is limited due to the content of impurities and radioactivity It is used in agriculture for the reclamation of salt marshes and acidified soils The possibilities of obtaining rare earth elements and other valuable substances from phosphogypsum are being investigated The main amount of the product is usually accumulated in dumps, since there is still little technologically profitable processing
